This photo will be explained below because it is related to fluorescent light health problems.
Fluorescent light sensitivity
Fluorescent light sensitivity is a serious problem for many people and it occurs from both compact and tube fluorescent bulbs.
Fluorescent light headaches are perhaps the most common symptom, but fluorescent light health problems can also include EMF symptoms caused by EMF radiation. I had one client whose skin turned red because of her fluorescent light sensitivity and the EMF waves emitted from the bulbs.
Most people will immediately experience fluorescent light sensitivity when trying to look at a compact fluorescent bulb. Many people also experience fluorescent light fatigue when working under this type of lighting for an hour or more. When using an EMF meter it is surprising to see the amount of EMF radiation people are exposed to when they are in proximity to these fixtures.
I have another article that discusses EMF protection which you can find HERE if you are interested in learning more about this topic.
Toxic soot particles
Fluorescent light sickness can also be caused by inhalation of toxic soot particles emitted from the electrical components of the fixtures.
The photos in this article were taken in an office building I was asked to investigate because employees were getting sick and did not know why. They were inhaling toxic soot particles that were originating from the fluorescent fixtures.
The soot particles were continually emitting from the light fixtures up on the ceilings when they were turned on. The invisible microscopic soot particles were like black snow falling down on them while they were at work.
The aging transformer problem
All fluorescent light fixtures have electrical transformers in them that reduce the amount of electricity entering the lightbulbs to make them more energy efficient. Compact fluorescent bulbs have the transformers built into the bulbs which are why the bases of the bulbs are large.
The transformers are designed to resist electricity which causes them to become hot which causes them to age, gradually fail, and sometimes start fires or explode. This can happen with tubular fixtures as well as compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Soot stains are often visible evidence inside fluorescent fixtures and on walls due to failing transformers. The stains are direct evidence of transformers leaking toxic soot particles that contribute to poor indoor air quality and make people sick. In addition to the light waves and EMF radiation, the toxic particles represent yet a third cause for fluorescent light headaches and other fluorescent light health problems. People with a keen sense of smell can often detect the subtle burning odor in the air when the transformers are hot.
The photo at the top of this article shows toxic soot particles from fluorescent fixtures that were in the air and then became bonded to the wall behind an electric wall clock. Seeing the soot particles on the wall and air registers give you a small glimpse of the billions of microscopic particles that were being inhaled by the employees in the building.
Fluorescent light sensitivity and EMF radiation exposure are increased when fluorescent bulbs start to flicker, go dim, or burn out. EMF waves introduced into the surrounding environment increase, even more, when you hear a light fixture make a humming or buzzing sound due to failing transformers. These conditions significantly increase fluorescent lighting health issues.
Eliminate fluorescent light sensitivity symptoms
I recommend replacing fluorescent fixtures and bulbs by upgrading to the newer LED lighting. The technology in LED lighting is safer, more energy efficient, and it reduces EMF radiation in your indoor environment.
EMF protection
Fluorescent lighting is just one contributing factor to EMF. To help you understand all the health issues related to EMF exposure in your home, I recommend reading the book How to Reduce EMF Radiation Exposure. It contains inspection photographs with clear explanations to help you understand EMF sources in homes and the practical solutions you can take to reduce your exposure. You can get the book here at the Indoor Air Store for just $7.99.
